Mid-Term Draft

This is my title page for my article, it took me a long time to decide what my title was going to be and I have decided on Clever Chef because it flows together and sounds good but im not sure it is the title I want in the end but it seems fitting enough and i like it but i have a feeling I will come up with something better. The image that I chose for this, I feel is more of a mid shot it includes most of the shop in this picture and it is full of colors but it made it difficult to find the right fonts and colors that would allow the title and headlines to be read easily. I had to place them in spots that would allow the words to be seen. overall it turned out to be the bright title page I was looking for.

This Table of contents is very different from the cover it is more of a plane page with a white background, which is what I had planned on with such a colorful cover I wanted the contents to be simple. This helped draw more attention to the pictures and helped explain what would be in this issue without having to read the titles of the articles. I plan on adding in more pictures or maybe giving the background a simple color. The images I chose contrast each other some are lighter and others are darker. Most of these ended up being close up images because in the magazines I have researched they included mostly close ups to help give detail of the food or gardens.

 This is the first page of my article which includes my overview of the shop and for this I chose a font that was easy to read and for my title i chose a font that i thought best suited Smallcakes and the color pink because that is the main color of the shop. The smaller images i included on this page were mainly closeups so that the detail could be seen because the closeups were of the food itself. The larger picture at the bottom I chose to use a wide shot because it was a picture of the variety of ice cream flavors and I thought that would be a good picture to incorporate.

This was my interview portion of my article I decided to only put one image on here because i wanted to include just one large picture making it easy to see. the title on this part of the article is the same font that is on the first page. This helped keep them together because seeing the two pages both with the same title font make it easy to connect them as one article. I wanted to keep my interview short but still meaningful so I only asked a few important questions. I felt that bolding the questions made it easier to locate where a new question began so that's why I kept it the same font but i just put it in bold because I wanted it to remain simple with all of the same font but I wanted to make it easier to read. 

Flatplan

 This is my flat plan and I had some trouble centering some of the words in some of the boxes, they didn't want to move into the middle of the box so I left them the way it was because I still knew what it meant and they could still be read. I put 90 pages on my flat plan because it seemed like a balanced number with all of my articles and where i placed my ads. the bulk of the articles ended up in the middle of the magazine with more of the ads at the beginning and at the end because in my research I noticed that more of the articles appear in the middle areas of the magazines.

Table of Contents

This is my Table of Contents most of the photos i chose to put on my table of contents are close ups and I chose to do it that way because when i had done my research on other magazine most of the photos were close up including the ones on the cover and I liked being able to see the pictures in great detail and i chose at least one picture from each section so that without reading the the actual pages and titles people would know that my magazine involves food and plants and home decor.

Scheduling photo shoot and interview

My article that I have chosen to write about is I will be interviewing a girl who works at a cupcake  shop called Smallcakes. The shop has been there for a little over a year and is located in Ellenton, i have scheduled to take photos on Tuesday and interview on Tuesday as well. I have some photos from a previously but i need a larger variety of photos for my article. I had planned to take photos the past weekend but I was not available on Saturday and they are closed on Sunday so the easiest day is on Tuesday. Some of the questions I plan on asking her are;

1. Why did you apply for this job?
2. How long have you worked here?
3. What got you into baking?
4 Would you ever want to own a shop like this?
 

magazine Contents Template

This is what I have chosen to do for my contents page and I plan on having 6 main articles on the table of contents with pictures off to the side possibly adding in some other small articles on this page later on but I like having just the main articles on there. i called it a menu because i wanted it to be more original that something like "table of contents"

Magazine Cover Template

This is my plan for my magazine template and I plan on keeping most of my fonts the same and having about 3 or 4 total, I would like to keep it more simple and clean. I chose blue and black as my general colors because with a white background with bright Colors makes it seem bright and clean which is my overall goal. i have come up with the title "Clever Chef" for now and I haven't decided if I am going to keep it or if I will change it but for now this is going to be my title.

Research- Woman's Day

The last magazine that I have chosen to do research on is called "Woman's Day." The cover of this magazine is very bright. That is what attracted me to the magazine, it is a bright red background, with a large plate of food on the front. It is a plate with chicken and vegetables on it and it looks like a healthy meal. The colors on the front were really well chosen, the food on the cover has vegetables that are orange purple and yellow. The side font colors on the cover are white yellow and orange. This really helps make everything fit together on the cover.The table of contents also has this effect,t he food is on a white plate with yellow rice and pink shrimp with a blue background and the font colors incorporated into the table of contents are pink and blue which makes everything fit together really well. The contents take up two pages and i really like how almost everything is included into the contents. This magazine seems to have a lot more articles than some i have researched in the past. The ads appear mostly in the beginning with some scattered in the back and most of them take up a whole page. The articles generally start on the right half of the pages and continue on until its finished and there is generally an article in between, i like how each article begins on the right that way you would always know where they will be. This magazine is part of the "Red Dress Awards" for the fight against women wit heart disease, but this magazine itself has not won any magazines. The Circulation rate is 3.2 million people.

Woman's Day Magazine:

Research- Better Homes and Gardens

The fourth magazine that I reviewed was called "Better Homes and Gardens." The cover page of the magazine. It is another magazine from November, it has 3 pies on the front, it looks like a pecan pie, a pumpkin pie, and a pie with fruit. The background is white and the title is bright pink which makes it easy to see. I really like how bright this cover is. the Table of Contents appears on page 6. It includes 4 pictures that have to do with some of the articles. The sections that are included are articles about furniture and home decor, and food. There are ads on almost every page and it is kind of hard to find the actual articles. Most of the ads are either consecutive or every other page and there are many in the beginning of the magazine. The distribution number for this magazine is 160,000. This magazine has not won any awards.


Better Homes and Gardens:

Research-Taste of Home

Another magazine that i have looked at for help is a magazine called Taste of Home. It is a Christmas edition. It is basically a recipe magazine for Christmas food, and cookies. The cover is full of Christmas colors; green red and white, including the inside designs which are also consisting of those colors. When i first saw this magazine i assumed that it was a small cook book, or recipe book it didn't occur to me that it was a magazine until i looked at the writing under the title that read "The magazine edited by a thousand country cooks." The table of contents is located on the first page, and it includes the title of the page with the name of the food and it also includes the page number. The page is full of huge pictures of the food with the page number so you know where you can find the page where that recipe is located. The magazine also includes a large section of food that has been condensed to fit on a small card to cut out of the magazine and use. There are not very many ads in this magazine. the small amount that are there are located int he back. This magazine hasn't won any awards. The circulation number is 3,230,000.
